Obituary for Irvin Barney (Booney) Cox
Irvin Barney (Booney) Cox of Quincy, Florida died Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Marianna Health And Rehabilitation Center in Marianna, Florida. He was born in Quincy, Florida on December 29, 1926 to the late Gilmore and Phoebe Cox. Booney spent forty years of his life managing Mary-Booney, Incorporated, a children’s clothing store for infants thru teens. Mr. Cox was a veteran of World War II in the Philippines with the United States Army as an Air Operation Specialist. He was a great Father and truly loved his wife, daughters and grandchildren. Booney was an avid fisherman at Mexico Beach Florida and a golfer at area courses in his spare time with friends and/or family.

Booney was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his wife, Betty, of fifty-six years. He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Goodpaster (Larry) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Bonnie Bess Skipper (Ricky) of Marianna, Florida, three special grandchildren; Amy Bradley (Eric) of Marietta, Georgia, Lucy Redding (Josh) of Montgomery Alabama, Lance Skipper (fiance'/Elizabeth) of Decatur, Georgia, and five great grandchildren; Amelia, Thomas, Audrey, Tyren, and Braylon.

Mr. Cox was a member of The First Baptist Church of Quincy, Florida where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Booney was actively involved in the work and support of his church.

Booney was an active member of the Rotary Club, the Quincy Junior Chamber of Commerce, and the board of the Gadsden Nursing Home in Quincy Florida. He was a supporter of the affairs of his community.

When Booney received a visit from any family member or close friend at his home, he always had a bright sparkle in his eyes of love and joy for their visit. He was a supporter of his family and community and one who cared about meeting needs of others. He always put others first.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, February 16, 2016, in The First Baptist Church Chapel of Quincy, Florida. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. EST in the chapel for family and friends. The service will start at 11:00 A.M. EST in the chapel. Committal will occur as a final part of the service; there will not be a graveside but interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Doctor Larry Goodpaster, Bishop of the Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church, and Reverend Jeffrey Jackson of The First Baptist Church of Quincy Florida will be officiating.. .

In lieu of flowers, donations can be provided to The Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch of Live Oak Florida and/or The First Baptist Church of Quincy building program in Quincy, Florida.
