Obituary for Joseph William Darnell
Joseph William Darnell, "Joe", a resident of Quincy, FL for the past 15 years, died on February 13, 2016 at the age of 69 after a short battle for life from an accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury.
Joe is survived by his wife, Sandy (Conrad); his children, Linda (Scott) Bergman of Quincy, FL and Jeff (Tina) Darnell of Quincy, FL; his brother, Henry (Kathy) Darnell of Dallas, TX and his sister-in-law, Karen (Bennett) Darnell of Orlando, FL. He is also survived by his dearest granddaughters, Allison and Zoe Bergman and many other beloved relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Joseph and Patricia Ann (Brinker) Darnell; and his brother, Daniel Eugene Darnell.
Joe was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 14, 1947. He retired from Bell Labs/AT&T in 2000, where he worked as an Electrical Engineer for 33 years. On March 14, 1970, he married Sandy, and they enjoyed 45 years of life together.
Joe was a devoted father and grandfather. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's special events and took great pride in his family. He enjoyed walking around Quincy and visiting many people along the way. He loved to build and tinker with electronics and left behind many intricate creations. He was a problem-solver and would work tirelessly on anything that would have otherwise found its way to the trash. He found spiritual peace and serenity through the fellowship of Al-Anon. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
Visitation is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church Parlor in Quincy, FL, immediately followed by an 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service in the Sanctuary, and a graveside service will follow. Pastor Christopher Erde will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joe's memory to Robert F. Munroe Day School, 91 Old Mt. Pleasant Rd., Quincy, FL, 32352; The Ride for Hope at the TMH Foundation, 1331 East 6th Ave., Tallahassee, FL, 32303; or the Quincy Music Theatre, 118 E Washington St., Quincy FL 32351, which were all dear to his heart.
