Joe Marion Butler
Joe Marion Butler, 92, of Quincy passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021. Joe was born on January 23, 1929 in Calvary, GA to Robert and Pearl Butler. He lived in Calvary, GA until his family moved to Quincy, FL in 1937 where he attended Gadsden County High School. After Joe’s military service, he attended Lively Vocational School where he met the love of his life, Bessie Matthews. They were married on December 27, 1953. He adored her and she spoiled him. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage before her death.
Joe was a Gadsden County Shade Tobacco Farmer for over 20 years. Joe and his loving wife, Bessie, raised four children in the countless blessings of farm life. In 1981, Joe and his family, received the Gadsden County Farm Family of the Year Award and were recognized at the North Florida Fair.
Joe loved the Gadsden County community. He was a Gadsden County Commissioner from 1973 to 1977. He was PTA President at George Munroe Elementary School when his children attended. And he was on the Board of Directors for the West Florida Livestock Association.

Starting in 1968, Joe and Bessie along with their children served for 3 years at the Southside Baptist Chapel, a mission of FBC. When the Southside Mission closed, Joe was integral to the establishment of a Bus Ministry. His love of God was a testimony to all who knew him.
In 1947, Joe went into the United States Air Force serving four years during the Korean Conflict. In 2018, Joe along with his brothers, Bob and Virgil, had the privilege and honor of going to Washington, D.C. on the Tallahassee Honor Flight.
