Douglas Howard Poppell, 97, died November 2, 2016 in Quincy, Florida. Born to James Bennett Poppell and Delia Kirkland Poppell in Leon County, Florida on August 17, 1919. He was preceded in death by his parents, a loving wife, Elizabeth Carman Poppell, 3 brothers and a sister. He leaves behind a daughter, Sharon P. Franklin of Quincy, 4 sons, Howard S. Poppell (Ruth) of Tallahassee, Walton Fain Poppell (Linda) of Madison, Samuel Edwin Poppell (Sue Anne) of Quincy, and John Albert Poppell (Deborah) of Tallahassee, 12 grandchildren and 19 great children with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Poppell was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed sharing his knowledge with everyone in his first book entitled "FROM THE SHADOWS OF COONBOTTOM". His second book has just come out entitled "A GATHERING OF PIONEER WISDOM". He will be missed by all who knew him, his quick wit and hardworking ways will forever live on through his children and grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at Sharon Franklin’s home, 214 Carlene Lane, Quincy, Florida, 32351, November 5, 2016, from 3 to 5 p.m.
