Young John “Y.J.” Allen
Y.J. Allen, 82 of Tallahassee, formerly of Chattahoochee FL, passed away on August 19, 2016 in Tallahassee.
YJ was born in Troy, AL to Freeman and Marguerite (Allgood) Allen on May 15, 1934. After high school YJ joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Port au Port, Newfoundland where he met and married his devoted wife Dolores. They were married for 48 years.
YJ was retired from the Florida Department of Corrections. YJ was an accomplished musician. He was able to play multiple instruments but was best known for his talent and love of the steel guitar.
YJ was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara Dolores (Felix) Allen, his brother Ray Burton Allen and his beloved niece, Elizabeth Lauren Butler.
Survivors include nieces Andrea Leuschner (Guy), Brittany Yazdanpanah (Cyrus) and Lawson Paul of Tallahassee. Three brothers, Freeman Allen Jr. (Cleo) of Cairo, GA, Frank Allen of Auburndale, FL, Kennith Allen of South America and sister: Martha Ann (CJ) of Sneads, FL and many other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 10:00am EST on Tuesday, August 23, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Chattahoochee FL with funeral services beginning at 11:00 EST following the visitation. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Chattahoochee FL with military honors.
