Obituary for William Eugene "Gene" Johnson
William Eugene Johnson “Gene” age 83, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021, at his home in Mt Pleasant, FL. He was born in Gadsden County, Florida on April 12, 1938 to the late, Thomas Jefferson Johnson and Maggie Louise Tomlin. Gene served 4 years active & 2 years inactive duty in the Air Force. He was a car salesman for Drake Motors and other various car dealers prior to becoming an automotive paint and body mechanic. From Gene’s Auto Mechanic and Paint Shop in Mt Pleasant, he did work for Coca Cola, Mac Truck, Burgundy Farms. Also, he painted an airplane, a casket, along with various other items. Gene worked for Ryder Truck Rentals, Caterpillar and retired from Quincy Farms in 2005. Gene served as deacon for 40+ years primarily at Maranatha Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. He is a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Chattahoochee, FL. Gene was preceded in death by his Mother, Father, and his brother, James (JJ). He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janice Oliver Johnson; daughter: Janice Wonsch (Bruce); grandsons: Bradley and Brett; [G] grandchildren: Raelee, Fenway, and twins Westley and Quillton; nieces: Rita Roosa (Russ) and Stephanie Carruthers (Mark), [G] Katlyn Roosa Johnson; nephews: Marty Peterson, [G] Hunter and Garrett Peterson and Kevan Roosa.
The funeral service will be Monday, June 7, 2021, at 7:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, Chattahoochee, FL. There will be a private interment at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.
