Obituary for William Arnold Buchanan
William Arnold Buchanan, 85, of Quincy, FL, passed away April 27, 2018 at Eden Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the widower of Necia Anne Britner Buchanan. They shared 53 years of marriage together.
Born in Bartow, Florida, he was the son of Grover Grimpky Buchanan and Callie Esther Harn. He graduated from Charlotte High School in Punta Gorda, Florida in 1950. He served his country in the Army National Guard and the United States Army.
Bill’s family heritage included several authentic “Crackers” who were original settlers of Florida. He was raised on his grandfather’s cattle ranch in central Florida.
He was a hard-working and faithful husband, father and grandfather who provided well for his family.
Bill enjoyed country-western music, old western movies, and was himself an accomplished guitarist in the style of Mother Maybelle Carter, an extremely difficult style of playing that few guitarists can accomplish. He loved camping, canoeing down the Suwannee River and camping along the riverbank with his son, and gardening. He loved the flora and fauna unique to Florida and passed that love on to his family. He was a Florida history enthusiast and a true poet.
He will be fondly remembered for his story-telling, sense of humor, and musical talent.
Bill is survived by his three children, Frank Wesley Arnold Buchanan (Sharon) Sand Springs, OK, Seanna Vashti Jeannette Buchanan, Lufkin, TX and Diana Lynn Buchanan Vossler (Robert), Quincy, Florida. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The viewing and graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2018, from 2:15 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy, Florida.
A gathering of family and friends will take place after the service at Bill’s house, located at 4778 Attapulgus Highway, Quincy, Florida 32352.
