David Wesley Greenwald, a much-loved lifetime resident of Gadsden County, Florida, passed away at his home on April 24, 2025, at the age of 73. Wes is survived by Judy, his beloved wife of 46 years; niece Dee Dauer (Doug); sister-in-law Loretta Weaver; and godchildren Becca Christenson, Mason Frascona and Mollie Clark. Wes and Judy lived life anchored in the importance of friends, family, and faith. Wes is survived by numerous people who relied on him as a surrogate father, dependable friend or cherished confidante.
He is predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Dave Greenwald; sisters, Lillie Kay and Sandra; godson John Shaw Vaughan; and Lucy, his loving canine companion. Wes was proud of his Colorado roots and leaves behind beloved family members in LaSalle, Colorado.
After graduating from Florida State University with a degree in criminology, Wes began his career as a Deputy with the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office. From there, he served the State of Florida for forty years as an investigator, safeguarding the integrity of programs intended to protect vulnerable citizens and fighting fraudulent activity regarding both Medicaid and the Agency for Persons with Disabilities.
Wes had many loves. Among them were his wife, Judy; Lake Talquin, boating, fast cars, Colorado, FSU football, water and snow skiing, fly fishing, hunting, a card game with his friends, fine whisky and a story well told.
Judy hopes friends will continue to tell his stories and lift a glass in his memory for years to come. He was the epitome of a good neighbor, a cheerful giver, and a faithful friend.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 5, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 206 N. Madison Street, Quincy. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Golf Club of Quincy, 2291 Solomon Dairy Road, Quincy.
