Obituary for Walter Jefferson Sharpton

Walter Jefferson Sharpton, 87, of Havana, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Born on May 30, 1937, in Greensboro, Walter lived a life dedicated to family and church.

Walter was a devoted husband to Rodia Sharpton and a loving father to Kevin Sharpton. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in the strong family he helped to nurture and grow.

Walter was predeceased by his mother, Pearl Sharpton, his father, Jefferson Davis Sharpton, and his brothers, Durwood Sharpton and Franklin Sharpton.

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." – John 14:27

A man of strong values and unwavering Christian conviction, Walter was joyfully retired, and he found great pleasure in tending his seasonal vegetable garden when he was not spending time with his extended family fishing and hunting. He was initiated into the Madison Masonic Lodge #11 of Florida in April 1970 and took great pride in giving back to those around him.

Services to celebrate Walter’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Quincy, Florida, on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Visitation is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. The interment will immediately follow church services at Sycamore Cemetery at Sycamore Rd, Quincy, FL. The family appreciates the love and support of friends and loved ones during this time. Flowers can be sent to the First Baptist Church of Quincy for the services, or donations can be made to Margaret Z Dozier Hospice House, a long-standing charity of the family, in Walter’s memory.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." – 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Walter will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His kindness, strength, and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. Charles McClellan is assisting the family with their arrangements and can be reached at (850) 627-7677, https://m.charlesmcclellanfh.com.
