Obituary for Walter Alexander Johnson

Walter Alexander “Cuz” Johnson passed away peacefully on March 2, 2023, surrounded by family following a brief illness. Cuz was born on December 15, 1936, to Sarah Margaret Watson Johnson and Sidney Alexander Johnson. Although Cuz was born an only child, he always considered his numerous cousins his brothers and sisters. Cuz attended the University of Florida where he obtained a degree in Civil Engineering. He went on to work first for the Florida Department of Transportation and then Broward Davis and Associates as a professional engineer and professional land surveyor.

Cuz was known as a sharpshooter, tall-tell talker and fun-loving guy to his closest friends and family, but to most of the world he was known as the guy that generously gave strangers, particularly children, money with the note “LOVE EVERY BODY” attached. Love everybody was the last thing his mother spoke to him before her passing. Cuz saw himself as a blessed man and wanted to share his blessings to everyone he could. Cuz paid off mortgages and donated land to several local churches, paid college tuition for numerous local underprivileged kids, and picked up every hitchhiker he came across. Cuz tried to see Jesus Christ in everyone he encountered.

Cuz is survived by his children Curry Johnson, Sarah Johnson Sanchez (Rick Sanchez), and John Johnson (Angel Whiddon Johnson) and his grandchildren Sidney Johnson (Kyle Mestas), Hayley Johnson, Joseph “JA” Sanchez, Chavis Sanchez, and William Sanchez. Cuz is preceded in death by his father Sidney, mother Sarah Margaret, wife Margaret Lawson Curry Johnson, and brother-in-law BoBo Edwards.

The celebration of Cuz’s life will be held at the Gretna Presbyterian church on Monday March 6th at 11 am with a luncheon to follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that everyone take the time to appreciate their fellow man and to always LOVE EVERY BODY.

Charles McClellan Funeral Home, Quincy, FL., 850-627-7677 is in charge of arrangements.
