Obituary for Virginia Davis

Virginia Davis of Decatur, Georgia died on December 1, 2023. She was 75 years old. She had suffered from a prolonged illness for 12 years and had been cared for in her home during these years.

Virginia was born in Quincy, Florida and grew up in Perry, Florida. She graduated from Perry High School and went on to Florida State University where she received a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in French. Virginia then received a degree in Elementary Education from West Georgia College, where she also studied psychology. Her final degree was Specialist in Education from Georgia State University. Virginia was an educator most of her life. She worked in the Dekalb County School District as a teacher and technology coordinator for over 20 years.

Virginia was a member of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir for many years and developed life-long friendships at Glenn. Later, she also attended Druid Hills United Methodist Church and made friends and sang in the choir there, too.

Virginia was happy spending time in her yard and with her gardening books. She was also interested in Jungian psychology and active with the Atlanta Jung Society. Along these lines, she enjoyed participating in a Dream Group.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Virginia Davis, and her brother, Jimmy.

She is survived by her sister, Doris Bullock, brother-in-law, Nat Bullock, niece, Rebecca White and her husband William White, great-nieces, Natalie and Margot, and great-nephew, Andrew. She is also survived by friends of 40 years, Ellen Patrick, Dianne O'Neal, and Vickie Long.

There will be a visitation at A.S. Turner & Sons in Decatur, Georgia on December 7, from 3 to 6 pm.

The funeral will be in Quincy, Florida at Centenary United Methodist Church on December 9 at 11 am, with a visitation at 10 am. She will be buried with her parents at Hillcrest cemetery in Quincy. Charles McClellan Funeral Home will be in charge of funeral arrangements in Quincy.

Donations in Virginia's memory and in honor of her many devoted caregivers can be made to the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers. Donations can also be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
