Obituary for Troy Jowers Holton
Ms. Troy Holton, age 86 (which she didn’t like to talk about), of Port St. Joe, Florida, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 16, 2021, in Raleigh, NC.
She was born June 17, 1934, in Gadsden County, FL, the oldest daughter of the late Melvin Lee Jowers and Nellie Faircloth Jowers.
Troy was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, and sister Geraldine Coggin.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Port St. Joe, FL. Troy retired from the Leon County School District after thirty plus years of service in 1996. She enjoyed reading books, gardening, walking on the beach, collecting natural treasures and spending time with her sisters, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Troy was our very own “Helpful Helouise”; always offering cleaning tips and ways to organize your life.
Troy is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna Standley (Mike) of Freeport, FL, Cynthia Nutter of Tallahassee, FL; four Grandchildren, Alicia Burgess (Jason), Nikki Spence (Brian), Matt Standley (Jessica), Rhea Goff (Brian), ten great grandchildren; and three sisters Nelle Murphy (Fuzz), Doris Melton, and Connie Pickles (Dale). She also leaves behind step-daughters, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other family and friends who will sadly miss her.
A graveside funeral service with family will be held at 2:00PM, Friday, January 22, 2021, at Salem Cemetery in Havana, FL, with Jason Burgess officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Friends of the Gulf County Public Libraries in Troy’s honor at 110 Library Dr, Port St. Joe, FL. 32457.
