Obituary for Sarah Eleanor Nicholson Adams
Sarah Eleanor Nicholson Adams, 102, died November 10, 2016, following a short illness. She enjoyed a long and fruitful life. She had been living at the Magnolia House in Quincy.
She was born July 9, 1914, to Angus and Ellie Darsey Nicholson in Amsterdam, Georgia. She attended Attapulgus High School, graduating in 1930. She attended Georgia State Women’s College at Valdosta, graduating in 1934 with a BA in math and chemistry.
She was a teacher, homemaker, served as Asst. Clerk of the Court in Quincy, and was a bookkeeper, working until she was age 96.
She married Omer L. Adams in 1941, and they remained happily married until he preceded her in death in 1977.
She was a long-time member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a 70+ year member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed her many friends and family, both young and old. Sarah enjoyed Canasta and had an amazing indoor green thumb for growing orchids and African violets. Her handcrafts were legendary--sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and tatting. She was a familiar sight in her neighborhood taking daily walks after work. She was an intelligent, independent lady, endearing to all who crossed her path.
She is survived by her children Nick (Wendy); Kay Soutar; Bill; and Gene (Susan); 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Family will receive family and friends at Centenary United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday, 11/12/16 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church, immediately following at 2:00 pm, with a private interment at Hillcrest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centenary Methodist Church or Big Bend Hospice.
Charles McClellan Funeral Home, Quincy, FL., 850-627-7677, is in charge of arrangements.
