Obituary for Sandra "Sandy" Smith Higdon
Sandra Smith Higdon, better known as Sandy, age 74, passed away unexpectedly on November 3, 2018. A long-time successful Tallahassee realtor with Connie Morgan realty and Coldwell Banker, Sandy was much loved and highly respected for her warmth, her unabashed honesty and her integrity. Supposedly she had retired, but she found it impossible to do so. She loved her clients too much to turn away.
No one ever loved a good laugh, or her friends, better than Sandy. Once you were her friend, you were never let go. She carried in her big heart every friend she ever made in her life, therefore her family believe her friends to be countless. So if you were her friend, her love lives on in you.
Sandy was born in Quincy, Florida, July 24, 1944, to Thomas and Lota Smith, a local farm family. She was the real “tom-boy”. At age four when asked what she wanted from Santa, her reply was, “A hammer, nails and some earbobs!” She was raised in the country between Greensboro and Quincy, hours spent exploring the woods with her 410 shotgun and bottling snakes. She was always her father’s strong worker, first in the tobacco fields and barns, and then in his office as she aged. Those skills learned as a child served her well as a hard-working realtor.
Her greatest delight were her two children and three grandsons. Nothing thrilled Sandy more than to be with her children and grandchildren, whether out in the boat, at Seagrove, or on some specially planned trip. She continued to be proud of son and daughter, and those grandsons as they matured and flourished. Their every accomplishment gave her a tremendous boost.
Sandy Higdon is survived by son, Ashley Fowler of Tallahassee; daughter Sandra (Susy) Suzanne Ward (husband Wilfrid) of Woodstock, GA; and grandsons Austin Fowler, Corey Fowler, and Maison Ward. Also she is survived by siblings: Tillie Tice of Charlotte, NC; Tommy Smith of Quincy; and Judith Maxwell (Jerry) of Bainbridge, GA; and former daughter-in-law Sherry Fowler of Lawrenceville, GA. Also surviving are nine fond nieces and nephews.
A Service for the celebration of the life of Sandy Higdon will be held Wednesday, Nov 7th, at Noon at Unity of Tallahassee, 2850 Unity Lane, 32303 (off Crowder Rd). Burial will follow at 2pm at Hillcrest Cemetery, N. 14th Street, Quincy, FL. A special time for sharing and storytelling by friends and family of Sandy Higdon will be held Tuesday night, Nov. 6th from 6-8 pm at The Quincy Garden Center, 204 East Jefferson Street, Quincy. Family and friends are welcome to attend
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to Hospice and Palliative Care of North Florida; Elder Care of Tallahassee; or Hurricane Relief Fund, Greensboro Baptist Church, Greensboro, FL
Charles McClellan Funeral Home, 15 S. Jackson St., Quincy, FL, 850-627-7677, is assisting the family with arrangements.
