Sandra Faye Benningfield Dawkins passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on January 4, 2024, after a lengthy illness. She was born June 9, 1943, in Quincy, Florida to the late Benjamin F. and Margaret R. Benningfield. She is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Emory Earl Dawkins, Jr., daughter Lisa Jo Leonard, brother Wayne Benningfield (Donna) and many loving nieces, nephews, and other family members. She was preceded in death by siblings Lt. Col. Kenneth H. Martin, Sr., Guy M. Martin, and Ann Dawson.
Faye had an interesting and successful career as a Lobbyist, office manager for the Fraternal Oder of Police, bookkeeper for various businesses and a short period of transcribing court proceeding.
Faye took great satisfaction and enjoyment from volunteering at the Gadsden Nursing Home, Magnolia House and the Alzheimer’s Project Respite. For many years she enjoyed saltwater fishing and afternoon gator rides around the Anthill Plantation with Earl. She loved working in her flowers, spending time in her craft house flower arrangements and jewelry, photographing ladies working on craft projects, church functions and weddings making.
Services will be Monday, January 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Providence Baptist Church in the Providence Community. Visitation will be10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Havana, Florida.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her name to one of her favorite charities, Big Bend Hospice, St. Labre Indian School or Shriners Children’s Hospital.
