Obituary for Ronald Henry Pounsberry, Jr

It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald H. Pounsberry, 79 of Quincy, Florida on January 4, 2017. A devoted husband, father, uncle, and grandfather, Ronald was a man whose life was defined by his unshakeable faith and his love for his family, the great outdoors, especially the quiet, peaceful waters where he found both solace and joy.

Born on September 7, 1937, in Maryland, Ronald grew up with a deep connection to nature and a strong foundation in his Christian faith. His love of fishing began at an early age, with memories of early mornings on the water with family, friends, and later with his children. Whether it was casting a line into the lake or fishing at the coast, Ronald found in the simplicity of fishing a reflection of the peace and patience he believed God called him to cultivate in his daily life. He enjoyed camping with his family, while spending the days catching a boat full of fish.

As a devoted and longtime member of St. Thomas, Ronald served his faith in the community in various capacities. His love for the Lord was evident in everything he did, and his faith was a source of strength and guidance throughout his life. Ronald found great joy in reading scripture, participating in Bible study groups, and attending services. He often said that when he was fishing, he felt closest to God, as the stillness of the water reminded him of the still, small voice of the Lord.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Rose Pounsberry, his oldest brother ( ) and sister (Dorothy), brother Richard (Dick) Pounsberry, sister, Helen Mann. Ronald is survived by his brother Kenneth (Kenny) Pounsberry wife Sandy of Virginia and sister Linda (Pounsberry) husband Adnre' (Andy) DeGagne of Tampa, Fl. with many nieces and nephews.

Ronald was a beloved family man, cherished by his wife of 59 years, Shirley (Langley) Pounsberry, and their children, Ronald Desales Pounsberry of Quincy, FL, Carl Frances and wife Earth Pounsberry of Quincy, Fl. He was a proud grandfather to Carl Jr and wife Iris, Jesse, Cody and great-grandson Kameron. His legacy will live on in the stories, lessons, and traditions he passed down through the generations. His kindness, generosity, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his love for family and faith, Ronald was known for his warmth and compassion. He had a generous spirit, often offering his time and resources to help others. Whether volunteering at church events, supporting community causes, or simply offering a kind word or helping hand to a neighbor, Ronald embodied the Christian principles of love, kindness, and service.

As we grieve the loss of this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord, casting his line into the eternal waters, where he will fish no more but rest in God’s everlasting love.

“I will make you fishers of men.” – Matthew 4:19
