Obituary for Roderick Eugene Vause
Roderick Eugene Vause, 86, of Quincy, FL., passed away Oct. 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his parents, John Evander and Clara Taff Vause, siblings, Hansel (Edna) Vause, Johnny Vause and Ann (Bill) Moulton and son Ricky Vause. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Robbie Cooper Vause, children Belinda Smith, Lesa Vause (Sherry), Patsy Miller, Edward Miller (Karen) and Joe Miller (Judy). Also surviving are grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister Sadie Butler and numerous nieces and nephews. Rod retired from the City of Quincy as the Fire Chief. He was a hard worker and highly respected by his peers. He will be remembered for his keen sense of humor and his honesty. He was brave, courageous, strong and a true gentleman. He survived several fierce battles during the Korean War that claimed almost his entire unit. He refused to abandon a wounded superior officer during battle despite being ordered to retreat. He was larger than life and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Our deep appreciation is extended to all the kind doctors and nurses who attended to him during his illness. Funeral service will be Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Washington Street Church of Christ in Quincy. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy. Charles McClellan Funeral Home, 15 S. Jackson St., Quincy, FL., (850) 627-7677, is in charge of arrangements.
