Robert Michael “Mike” McDonald, 72, of Albany, GA, died the morning of September 21, 2023 surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 25, 2023 at 11:00 am at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Rev. Paul Luthman will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Mike was the first child born to Harvey and Maurene Avera McDonald on Wednesday, December 13, 1950 in Edison, GA. With his father in the Army, there were several moves with the most special being to the Territory of Hawaii.
His father retired from the Army in Monroe, LA where Mike eventually attended Ouachita Technical School and became a welder. Later his parents returned home to Shellman, GA, where Mike eventually moved with his two young sons. He continued his career as a welder, eventually retiring from Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany in 2015.
In 1988, Mike met and eventually married Jane May. This union gave them two daughters, Becca and Katherine. In early 2001, he was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, a rare cancer. He bravely fought this cancer for twenty-two years.
Mike had a deep faith in the Lord and wanted to take a trip to the Holy Land. He loved the outdoors and fishing, playing the guitar, and spending time with his family. Mike was a devoted husband and father, and his greatest joy was being Grandpa.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, a son, Joshua McDonald, and his sister-in-law, Donna McDonald.
Survivors include his wife, Jane, his son, Michael McDonald, his daughters, Becca Roberts (Brandon) and Katherine McDonald, his brother, Rick McDonald, his grandchildren, Jared McDonald, Erin Childers McDonald, Brayden Roberts, Xora McDonald, and great grandson, Joshua McDonald-Mcgee.
A committal service will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 11:00 am in Old Philadelphia Church Cemetery in Quincy, FL.
