Obituary for Robert Henry Higdon, Jr.
Robert Henry Higdon, Jr. died on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at his home in Bainbridge surrounded by his
family.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Higdon Family
Cemetery on the Higdon farm in Calvary, GA with Rev. Stephen L. Webb officiating. The family will
receive friends immediately following the service.
Bobby was born on May 7, 1939, the son of Robert Henry Higdon and Stella Dekle Milton Higdon. He
was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1957 and attended Middle Georgia College and
Florida State University. He then joined his father in business at the Royal Crown Bottling Company of
Bainbridge, Inc. He also managed the family farm in Calvary, GA where the main crop was shade
tobacco. He served six years in the Georgia National Guard and was a member of the First United
Methodist Church, Bainbridge Rotary Club, and enjoyed golfing at Bainbridge Country Club.
Bobby also enjoyed horseback riding and quail hunting. Most of all, he loved the people of Bainbridge,
where he lived all of his life. He joined many of his friends for lunch at local restaurants where they
shared the many stories of days gone by.
Bobby is survived by his brother Joe (Deborah) Higdon of Bainbridge, GA; his sisters, Nell H. Scrantom
(Bill) of Columbus, GA and Jane McLendon (Bobby) of Blakely, GA; his nephews, Walter Hudson,
Frost Hudson, Rob McLendon, Joe Higdon, Jr., and Jim Higdon; his niece, Stella McLendon Smith; his
great-nephews, Collier Robinson McLendon, Andrew Marshall Smith, and Ian Donovan McLendon; his
great-nieces, Lillian Grace McLendon and Jane Anne Smith; and his loyal best friend, Clint Hilburn.
Bobby's family expresses appreciation to his many caregivers, Mittie Stubbs, Pam Jaye, Jennifer Hall,
Ricky Cook, Tracy Johnson, Tameka Powell, and Gonzella Crawford for their wonderful care.
The Higdon family has entrusted the arrangements to Ivey Funeral Home, 502 S. Scott Street,
Bainbridge, GA 39819.
