Obituary for Maxine Johnson

Barbara Maxine Johnson 80, from Tallahassee, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2025, after an extended illness. Maxine was born on August 31, 1944, to Mary and Archie Johnson in Bainbridge, GA. She moved to Quincy, FL with her parents and older siblings a short time later. After graduation, she went to Lively Vo-Tech to obtain her LPN License. Around 1974, she went back to school and got her RN license. She retired from TMH after 42 years of nursing. The majority of her career was spent in ICU and cardio vascular ICU. She was a dedicated nurse, and her dedication paid off. Her job was her life. She was respected in her field and her patients always came first.

Survivors include one brother, Billy (Gay) from Wytheville, VA, two sisters, Marilyn Revell from Quincy, FL and Charlene Spears from Crawfordville, FL. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved to spoil.

Maxine never married but she was always surrounded by nieces and nephews, which she loved spoiling. She often spent quality time with them taking them places and buying them things they didn’t need.

Maxine had a heart big as all outdoors. If there was a critter that needed help, she nursed them back to health, and found them a home even if the home was in her house.

She was always helping others in need. Taking them to doctor's appointments, to grocery shop and even buying them groceries. As long as they had Maxine on in their lives, their needs were taken care of, and they loved her for it.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Mary Johnson, two brothers, Sidney and Ben Johnson, one sister, Carolyn Mills and a special niece, Maricarole Mills.

Prior to being laid to rest in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy, next to her parents and brother, her celebration of life will be held at the Washington Street Church of Christ in Quincy on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time  at 12:00..

Charles McClellan Funeral Home, Quincy, FL., 850-627-7677, is in charge of arrangements.
