In Loving Memory of Maurice Edward Peddie Jr "Buddy"

March 7, 1957 - July 14, 2023

Maurice Edward Peddie Jr, fondly known as Buddy, was called to eternal rest on July 14, 2023. He was born on March 7, 1957, to his dear parents Elvie Proctor Peddie and Maurice Edward Peddie Sr, both of whom have preceded him in death. Buddy was the cherished third child in a family of three siblings, with his adoring older sisters Cherrie Anne and Martha Faye, who have also passed away.

Buddy's journey in life began in Gadsden County, where he was born and raised. He graduated from Greensboro High School in 1975, and it was during these formative years that he discovered his passion for serving his community. His unwavering dedication to public service led him to embark on a long and illustrious career, starting as a Jailer and then progressing to roles as Deputy, Police Officer, and ultimately Chief of the Quincy Fire Department. Buddy served the Quincy community with distinction until his retirement in 2008. However, his desire to make a difference did not end there. He embarked on a second career as the E 9-1-1 Coordinator for Gadsden County, where he continued to contribute his expertise until his retirement in 2019.

On May 23, 1980, Buddy joined in matrimony with the love of his life, Barbara Kathryn "Kay" Davis Peddie. Their union was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Amy Kathryn Peddie McCann and Aliya Christine Peddie. Buddy's dedication to his family was unwavering, and he poured his heart and soul into providing them with love, support, and guidance throughout their lives.

Buddy was a man of varied interests and hobbies. He found solace and joy in the great outdoors, particularly through hunting and fishing. The thrill of geocaching and the wonders of the digital world on YouTube captured his curiosity and provided him with moments of relaxation and entertainment. However, nothing brought him more joy than spending quality time with his four beloved grandchildren, Deven Zada, Riley Kathryn, River Elyse, and Macen James. Buddy also shared a special bond with his nieces Darrell, Christy, Sissy, and Mandy, along with numerous other nieces and nephews, who were treasured extensions of his large loving family.

Buddy's amiable nature and kind-heartedness endeared him to many, and he forged lifelong friendships through his involvement in the ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) club. These gatherings provided him with moments of camaraderie and laughter, as he relished the company of his closest buddies.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation, which will take place from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 16, at Bethel Assembly of God on Pine Grove Church Road in Greensboro. Following the visitation, a heartfelt service commemorating Buddy's life will commence at 3:00 PM. He will be interred at the cemetery at Polar Branch Church immediately after the service.

As we bid farewell to Buddy, let us hold dear the memories of his loving spirit, his unwavering commitment to his community, and the joy he brought to the lives of those around him. His legacy of compassion, dedication, and warmth will forever be etched in our hearts.

Rest in eternal peace, dearest Buddy. You have left an indelible mark on our lives, and we will forever cherish the memories we shared. May your soul find serenity and tranquility in the embrace of God’s everlasting love.

Charles McClellan Funeral Home, Quincy, FL., 850-627-7677.
