Obituary for Mary Jeanette Joyner
Mary Jeanette Joyner age 88 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee.
She was born August 19,1933 in Grand Ridge, Florida to John Elzie and Eva Miller McLane.
A long-time resident of Sneads and Chattahoochee, Florida she was retired after 42 years at Florida State Hospital, was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church – Chattahoochee, Chattahoochee Women’s Club, Order of Eastern Star Quincy Chapter, and the Sneads/Carlisle Garden Club.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Ronnie) McLane (Ann) of Quincy, and Craig Pope (Nancy) of Sneads; brother Herbert (Mac) McLane (Blanche) of grand Ridge, two step-sons, Mike Joyner (Sonja) of Havana, and Al Joyner (Suzanne) of Cypress; eight grandchildren; and a host of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold L. Joyner, brother Adrian McLane, and granddaughter Nina McLane.
A woman of many talents, she was a world class southern cook and hostess, for years she was the “Cake Lady” in Chattahoochee. At 75 years old, she would cook a full Thanksgiving meal and have it on the table at 6:30 sharp. She could sew, quilt, and embroider with the best. Later in life (between 75 and 80) she decided to become an artist and took up painting.
She took serving others to heart, never missing an opportunity be a caring friend, a compassionate listener, a voice of reason, always saw the bright side, and always put others ahead of herself.
As the matriarch of a large blended family, she loved us all the same and will be long missed, but never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Big Bend Hospice and/or WMU-First Baptist Church of Chattahoochee.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 13, 2022 at 4:00 PM, with a memorial service following at 5:00 PM. Both will be held at the First Baptist Church of Chattahoochee.
