Obituary for Margarette Quarterman Strickland
Margarette Quarterman Strickland , 96, of Quincy, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Riverchase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She is survived by her two children, Jack Strickland, Jr. and Jane Mock (Bill), four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, retired Lieutenant Commander Jack Strickland, USN. Margarette was born in Cason, Florida on May 7, 1919. She graduated from Quincy High School at sixteen and attended business school in New Orleans, Louisiana. She holds the distinction of being first female loan officer at the Quincy State Bank. Upon her retirement from the bank, she and her husband Jack travelled in their RV, visiting Navy friends and attending ship reunions around the country. Margarette was active at Centenary United Methodist Church where she held numerous positions. She delivered Meals-on-Wheels into her nineties. Margarette began the "Knit-Wits," a church knitting group where she knitted over 300 sweaters that have gone around the world to needy children. She also knitted caps for premature babies for TMH. Margarette was an accomplished seamstress, making clothes for her daughter and granddaughters. She also sewed costumes for the Quincy Music Theatre. Services are Friday, February 5, 2016, at 11:00 AM, at Centenary Methodist Church in Quincy, Florida. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time in the Church's parlor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Centenary Methodist Church, 206 N. Madison St., Quincy, FL., 32351. Charles McClellan Funeral Home, Quincy, FL, (850) 627-7677, assisted the family with the arrangements.
