LeRoy Jackson Moore, age 96, of Blountstown, passed away Saturday, 21, 2023, in Blountstown. LeRoy was born in Colquitt County, Georgia, to the late John Newton and Ella Moore. LeRoy lived in Blountstown for 83 years and was a logger by trade. In 1957, LeRoy uncovered a deadhead cypress log, and this discovery was instrumental in introducing the market for deadhead cypress for Neal Land and Timber Company. LeRoy and his brothers continued to work for the timber company for many years. LeRoy was one of the last surviving loggers of his generation. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella Moore, brothers Frank Moore, Walter Moore, and Robert Lee Moore, and one sister, Corine Bishop, and Leroy’s beloved dog Bobo. Survivors include one son, Roy Lee Moore, and wife, Janice of Blountstown. Granddaughters Mary Sue Moore (Chase) McClellan of Frink, Florida and Barbara Ann (Jason) Bodiford of Altha, Florida.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, 26, 2023, at 9:00 AM (CST) at Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery in Blountstown with Jimmy Baggett officiating.
