Obituary for Katie Millender McKnight
On Thursday, May 6th, 2021, Katie Millender McKnight passed away at age 78.

Katie was born on March 16, 1943 in Carrabelle to Braxton and Lena Millender. She was one of 7 children and was always very close to her family helping support and take care of her siblings.

She fell in love with John McKnight, Sr. in grade school. They married on June 26 1959, giving birth to John McKnight, Jr. shortly after in 1960 & Stuart McKnight in 1965. She loved raising her children and often had a table full of friends and family for afternoon coffee & sweets. Not only did she raise her sons, she also helped raise 3 of her grandchildren.

Katie spent her life in the oystering industry on Apalachicola Bay. Over the years she could be found shucking oysters or on the oyster boat with her husband & children. In addition to oystering, Katie attended the Franklin County Corrections Academy and spent years working at the jail. Katie also loved the school industry & served on the Franklin County School Board for several terms. Katie was always a hardworking woman with a heart of gold. She will be missed by many.

Katie is preceded in death by her parents, Braxton and Lena, siblings, Farris, Robert, Lena, Tillie, Betty, Mary and her son, Stuart. She is survived by her son, John McKnight, Jr., four grandchildren, Miranda (Rob) Whaley, Erica (Dustin) Cook, Riley Attridge and Braxton McKnight, and three great grandchildren, Ethan, Ava, and Aliviah Whaley.

A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery Friday, May 14th, at 11:00am.
