Obituary for Joseph Liona Brown
Joseph (Joe) Liona Brown of Telogia, FL passed away peacefully in his home on June 28, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on May 23, 1944, to the late Johnny and Lou Ella Albritton Brown in Telogia, FL, Joe was a proud lifelong resident of Telogia and Liberty County. Joe started working at the age of 14 with Wesley Hosford surveying property around the Panhandle and Big Bend Area in Florida, at the age of 20 he began working with the railroad system on the M&B railroad car that is now located in Blountstown, FL, after leaving M&B railroad, he began working with Niagara Wires in Quincy, FL in 1967 where he retired after 34 years, and he also served as a school board member with the Liberty county school system in the 70s. Joe loved to take vacations with his loving wife, Annette, going camping, and spending time with his family and friends; he was an avid hunter and fisherman, and you could find him in the national forest in the winter running dogs and telling stories about that big ole 10 point buck he killed one time and on a river or lake in the summer telling stories about that huge bass it took him 30 minutes to reel in, “because he taught Bill Dance how to fish”; he was also a carpenter by skill and if he wasn’t hunting or fishing, he was building something or adding on to the house. Joe loved his family and friends, and he would help anyone out if he was able. He also had a special place in his heart for his cats, and he will be missed by his favorite napping buddy “CheeChee”. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas Brown of Bristol, special brother-in-law James Elliott of Telogia, FL, mother-in-law Ollie Qualls of Quincy, FL, brothers-in-law Carlos Qualls and Kenneth Qualls of Quincy, FL, and Johnny Qualls of North Carolina. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Annette Brown; three children, Marvin Brown of Telogia, Stephen (Christa) Brown of Huntsville, AL, and Joley Owens of Sneads; sister Frances Elliott of Telogia; brothers Edward Brown and Ellis Brown of Telogia; and brothers-in-law James and David Qualls of Quincy, Fl; five grandchildren, Joseph (Shilo) Brown, Tyler Brown, Christian Brown, Kaileigh Brown, and Bridgit Owens; and a host of nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, viewing will be @9:00 a.m. (ET), graveside service will begin @10:00 a.m. (ET) at Sanders Cemetery in Hosford. All arrangements are under the direction of Charles McClellan at Charles McClellan Funeral Home in Quincy.
