Chief Joseph H Chason, (USN, RET), also known as Daddy, Dad, Gator, Papa, and Pa, passed away on September 26, 2024 following a brief illness. He was born on May 2, 1936 in the Chason Community near Altha, FL.
Chief Chason proudly served his country for a total of 24 years in the US Navy. During his time of service he was the recipient of the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Navy Achievement Medal, five Good Conduct Awards, and the Navy Expeditionary Medal.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jordan Chason and Armetta Shelton Chason, and his brother Richard Arlen Chason.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Chason, brother, Wilford Gerald Chason, sister, Opal Sandra Summerlin, his children, Josie Chason, Lauren Chason, Vicki Chason, Joseph Zane Chason, Dyan Rees (Lamar), and Shawn McClendon. He is also survived by his sixteen grandchildren, Cheryl, William (BJ), Jeremy, Jordan, Susan, Charles, Erin, Londyn, Cambraige, Ryker Zane, Eric, Wesley, Syneria, Shawn Cameron, Makayla, and Eliana. He also leaves nineteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He is our rock and he will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be at 10:00 am EDT on Monday, September 30, 2024 at Sycamore Baptist Church 705 Little Sycamore Rd, Quincy, FL, 32351, where he was an active member. The service will follow at 11am.
Interment will be at New Shiloh Cemetery on Alfred Shelton Road off of Hwy 274W, after a graveside military service.
