Obituary for John Glenn Payne
John Glenn Payne, age 57, of Norcross, GA, passed away on June 28th at Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA after battles with cancer.
John was born November 5th, 1962 in Jacksonville, NC to Harold Marvin & Mary Ann Stoutamire Payne, both who have proceeded him in death. Although he was raised and lived most of his life in Albany, GA, his most treasured memories were of the time he spent with his family in the Blue Creek community of Hosford during the summers and holidays.
Directly after high school, John joined the United States Marine Corp where he served proudly for 8 years. Serving at both Cherry Point, NC and Camp Pendleton, CA bases as an Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic. During his time in California he also attended college and received a degree in Sound Engineering. John’s love for music stretched to all genres, with a special affinity toward classical and jazz.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Janet Thorpe Martin Payne, and step-son Thomas Andrew Martin, II (wife Fatima), and two nieces and a nephew. Also proceeding him in death are his Grandparents, Sam and Boonie Stoutamire, Uncle Amos and Aunt Earline Sumner, and cousin Reggie Sumner.
Visitation will be held on July 3, 2020 beginning at 10:00am at Grace United Methodist Church, Hwy 65, South, Hosford, FL, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 11:00am. Interment will be at Blue Creek Cemetery.
