JOE BROWN’S OBITUARY
Joe Brown, 88, died April 16, 2021, at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee. Born in Columbus, Georgia, Joe moved to Bristol, Florida in 1932. Joe was a 1950 graduate of Liberty County High School. Immediately following graduation, Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force and is a veteran of the Korean conflict. Joe continued to serve his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard Reserve. After returning to the U.S., Joe attended the University of Florida and graduated in 1958 with a B.S in Journalism. Joe also earned a Graduate Certificate in Public Administration and Executive Management from Florida State University in 1973. In 1974, Joe became the 40th Secretary of the Florida Senate serving for 22 years, retiring in 1996. Joe was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Hosford, Florida.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ernest Brown and Flora Allen Brown, and his sister Derry Brown Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca E. Brown, his children Jospeh E. Brown, Charles A. Brown (Sherry), Julie Brown Lawhead (Brad), Ivy Concar Harger (Lloyd), Andrea Concar. Grandchildren: Jared Lawhead (Alexandra), Ben Harger, Lauren Harger, Alex Birbahadur, Becca Birbahadur, Adam White (Meghan). Two great grandchildren. A niece, Mary Jane Johnson Brower. A brother Barney Stallworth and two sisters, Margaret Kellam and Judy Stallworth, and multiple nieces and nephews.
The service will be held graveside at the Bristol cemetery in Bristol, Florida Monday, April 19, 2021 at 11:00 am. The family asks that gentlemen do not wear suit jackets or ties and that all in attendance dress casually. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Big Bend Hospice.
