Jean Ford Peacock Macon
Jean Macon died on November 13, 2024, at home with her husband, just short of her 90th
birthday which would have been December 3. She was the eldest child of Ruth and W.L.Ford
and was born in Pensacola, Florida. Later she moved to Quincy, Florida where she spent the
majority of her life. She attended Quincy High School and Florida State University where she
obtained her degree in education. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority where she made
many lifelong friends. After college she married C.Wayne Peacock, and she taught Home
Economics at Quincy High School for one year and then became a full time mother to her three
sons. She returned to teaching at Quincy Junior High School teaching Home Economics and
Career Education for many years. Her last teaching position was at Carter Parramore Junior
High School. Known as a strict disciplinarian she influenced many Gadsden County students as
they pursued careers and advanced degrees. After retiring she stayed active in the community
through her church, membership at the Gadsden Country Club, singing in the church choir and
her bridge group. Her favorite place to be was the beach and she would create wonderful
memories with family and friends there.
She was married to C Wayne Peacock until his death. Through Wayne, she met a gentleman
named Charlie Macon. Unfortunately, they both lost their spouses within weeks of one another.
The two began to see one another, ultimately deciding to marry. Jean moved to Greensboro and
they successfully blended their two families and enjoyed 24 years of marriage. Charlie is
credited with convincing Jean to become a golfer and together they were lifelong supporters of
Tallahassee Community College and Florida State University.
