Janie Louise Avirett Creel went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday morning, April 14, 2024. She was born in Blakely, Georgia on Wednesday, December 7, 1927, to her father Abner Eugene (Pat) Avirett, and her mother Janie Harris Avirett, who both preceded her in death. Siblings preceding her in death were sisters Ruth Stephens, Pauline Scott, Alice Creel Hester, Bertha Avirett, Little Tommie Avirett, and brothers Robert Avirett, Hulan (Hootie) Avirett, Wallace Eugene Avirett (Big Buddy), James Alison Avirett (Little Buddy). Also preceding her in death was her beloved daughter-in-law Faye Shofner Creel.
She married Raymond Creel, Sr. on July 11, 1942. He went to be with the Lord on October 27, 1988. Those remaining to mourn her passing are daughter and longtime caregiver Carol Allen (Franklin), son Raymond Creel, Jr. (Brenda), and son Patrick Creel; grandchildren Jason Allen, Alison Allen Salyer, Stephen Creel (Sherry) and Mallory Creel Stidam (Keifer); great grandchildren Cade Salyer, Kylie, Khloe, Kynzlee, Robbie, and Lukas Stidam, and many other nieces, nephews and loving family members and friends.
Janie was a loving wife and homemaker for her family and a Christian. She was a longtime member of Hart Haven Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida where she was a preschool Sunday School teacher and church treasurer. In 1983 she returned to Havana, Florida where she had been raised. At that time, she became a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Havana, serving as secretary of her Sunday School Class and member of the counting committee. She remained a member of the church until her death.
A celebration of Janie’s long life will take place on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Havana. The visitation will be at 10:00 am, with a service following at 11:00 am. The interment will be at the Nicholson-Freeman Cemetery.
