Jacquelyn Virginia Singletary Kelley was born August 7, 1936 to Earl and Madie Sumner Singletary in Bristol, FL. She faithfully attended Lake Mystic Baptist Church with her parents until becoming a charter member of their mission church, First Baptist Church of Bristol.
In 1955, while a freshman at FSU, her Sunday School student at Fellowship Baptist, Peggy, introduced Jacquelyn to her favorite uncle, J. L. (Jim) Kelley. It was love at first sight; they were married four months later at Fellowship in Tallahassee, FL. Their three children followed not long after.
Jim was in the Air Force, and the family moved often in the early years. When he retired from service, the family settled in Jacquelyn’s hometown of Bristol, FL. The greatest joys of her life came when her grandchildren, great-granddaughter and great-great-granddaughter were born. Jacquelyn became an early widow at the age of 61, facing Jim’s death with grace, faith, and fortitude. She never lost her infectious giggle and bright smile.
Jacquelyn passed away in the presence of her family at the age of 86 on September 23, 2022 in Tallahassee, FL. She is survived by her children, Janell (Tom) Clemons of Bristol, FL; Janet (Lane) Bentley of Bristol, FL; and James (Rick) Kelley, Jr. of Falls Church, VA; grandchildren, James (Christy) Clay of Bristol, FL, Julia-Kate (Richard) Rabitaille of Dothan, AL; and Elijah (SaVannah) Bentley of Hosford, FL; great-grandchild, Savana (Daniel) Roberts of Freeport, FL; and great-great-grandchild, Zoë Roberts of Freeport, FL.
Visitation will be held in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church (FBC) of Bristol, FL on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at FBC Bristol at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Air Force Aid Society (afas.org) or the veteran’s charity of your choice.
