Obituary for Ira Richard Dawson

Ira Richard “Dick” Dawson of Citrus Springs FL passed Friday June 13, 2025, peacefully at his home. Born January 8, 1938, in Clarksville, FL to Richard and Elise Pitts Dawson, in his youth Dick attended school in his hometown of Clarksville and enjoyed spending his free time assisting his father with his tupelo honey business. He moved with his family to Port St. Joe, FL where his father worked at the Port St. Joe Paper Mill. He and his father spent a lot of time together at the camp his father built on Willis Island. Dick graduated from Port St. Joe high school where he met his best friend and love of his life Gypsie Anne Dawson. Dick and Gypsie were married on August 25th, 1957, and were blessed to be married and together for 68 beautiful years. After acquiring a job with Ryder Truck Rentals, Dick and his family left Port St. Joe and headed to Jacksonville, FL. Through the years he advanced with the company, moving to Tallahassee, Brandon and Orlando, staying locally in Florida his whole life. He retired from Ryder after 35 years of service to the company, leaving as a Regional Sales and Leasing Manager. Throughout his life, his main passion was camping and fishing with his family, creating memories together that will be shared for generations. He passed with his pride and joys, his bass boat and his motor home ready for the next fishing trip.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gypsie Dawson, his daughter and her husband Linda and Jim Hayes, his daughter Deborah Dawson, his three granddaughters April, Angela, and Brittany along with her husband Chris and their son Ayden who is Dick’s great grandson.

Funeral service will be Saturday, June 21, 2025, 11:00 EST, at Holly Hill Cemetery in Port St. Joe, FL.
