Obituary for Iona Lee Eubanks
Tallahassee—Iona Summers Eubanks, 102, of Tallahassee, died October 7, 2018, at Saint Augustine Assisted Living in Tallahassee surrounded by her family. Her family in Liberty County Florida stretches back to the 1850’s. She was raised in a very small community called, among many things, Slip and Slide.
Mrs. Eubanks is survived by a son Terrence Paul Eubanks (Mary) Lake Mystic, a daughter, Karen Eubanks Long (David) Gainesville, Georgia; three granddaughters Christine Long Cartwright (Brian), Woodstock, Georgia, Catherine Long Eubanks, (Oliver), Nashville, Tennessee; Staci Stacurro Farrah (Jeff), Tallahassee, Florida, two great grandsons David and Marshall Gunter; five great granddaughters, Ansley and Abigail Cartwright; Byrd Stacurro, and Nyla and Harlo Farrah. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.
Mrs. Eubanks was predeceased by her parents, A.L. and Jessie McDaniel Summers, her husband, Paul Jones Eubank, Tallahassee; a grandson, Clay Eubanks, Mexico Beach; three brothers, Gordon, Al, and Lester Summers, and two sisters, Elnita Summers and Joyce Hosford.
Mrs. Eubanks is the last surviving member of the graduating class of Liberty County High School 1935. She married the love of her life Paul Jones Eubanks on June 8, 1939 and they were married for 75 years prior to his death. She graduated from Florida State University College for Women. She made her living by teaching school everywhere she and Paul lived until her retirement. She somehow knew that teaching was a profession that wasn’t just a fall back because she was a girl but something she was called to do.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Interment will be private at Lake Mystic Cemetery, Bristol, Florida. .
Flowers are welcome and Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 2851 Remington Green Circle, Tallahassee, Florida.
