Obituary for Hal Duncan Fletcher, Jr
Hal Duncan Fletcher, Jr. 3/17/1941 – 12/16/2021

Hal Duncan Fletcher, Jr. of Quincy, FL passed away on December 16, 2021. Duncan was born on March 17, 1941 in Quincy, FL to Hal and Frances Fletcher. Duncan grew up in Greensboro, and attended Greensboro High School, before transferring to Quincy High School where he graduated in 1959.

After graduation, Duncan attended the University of Florida, and served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve, before graduating from Florida State University with a business degree. He then attended the Memphis State University School of Banking, and joined the staff of Citizens Bank and Trust Company in 1970. He served the bank in just about every capacity, from sweeping the floor to positions as a collector, teller, loan officer, assistant cashier, vice-president, and senior vice-president before becoming president of the bank in 1984. He remained with the bank as it became First Florida Bank, prior to his retirement.

He married Carole Normandin in 1968 and they created a happy home in Quincy for 53 years. He was the proud father of Hal Duncan Fletcher III, and Patrick Ward Fletcher. After his retirement, Duncan built his house in Quincy, doing the majority of the work himself. He was always available to help anyone who needed his services, and built a number of projects for family and friends over the years.

Duncan was a true renaissance man, as he was proficient in finance and also skilled at working with his hands. He loved the outdoors, spending many happy days hunting with his cousins and brothers. He was honest, hardworking, intelligent and stubborn. He was fiercely proud of his Suber and Fletcher heritage and got a double dose of all of those attributes from both sides of his family. He continued his family’s legacy of being devoted to Gadsden County and its history.

Duncan was predeceased by his mother, Mary Frances Suber Fletcher, his father and step-mother, Hal and Jean Fletcher, his son, Patrick Ward Fletcher, his sisters Kay Fletcher Kincaid, and Millie Fletcher.

He is survived by wife Carole, son Hal Duncan Fletcher, III, grandson Phoenix, brothers Taylor Fletcher, Mark Fletcher (Martha), and Bert Fletcher, and sister, Mary Fletcher Meloni (Al). He was well loved by all of his Uncles, Aunts, and scores of cousins.

On December 19, 2021, at 3:00 p.m., there will be a graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery. His family will receive friends following the service. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Centenary United Methodist Church Grounds fund, or to the United Methodist Children’s Home, https://embraceflkids.org/donate. Charles McClellan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (850) 627-7677.
