Obituary for George Mark Morgan, Jr.
Mark was born on June 17th, 1937 to Mamie Lou Sapp and George Mark Morgan, Sr. He passed away peacefully on June 20th, 2020 at home with his family by his side. He graduated from Havana High School in 1955 and Emory University in 1962 where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, practicing in Tallahassee throughout his entire career.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Shelfer Morgan and their four children, Amy (Paul), Cass, Stacy (Mark), and Charles. He will also be fondly remembered by his four grandchildren Jennifer, Matt, Luke (Emeline), Gwendolyn and two great-grandchildren Makayla and Brandon.
Mark was a proud and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, encouraging the interests of all the family. A constant reader at an early age, he continued to read, favoring historical novels and biographies.
Mark enjoyed photography, turning one of the home bathrooms into a dark room where he developed the many black and white photographs of the family. He was known for his homemade vegetable soup which was always ready for the children to enjoy while visiting on holidays as well as his seasonal boiled peanuts. He would also fry chicken outside for family birthdays and extended family functions. An avid classic car enthusiast, Mark would share them for use in parades and weddings. He especially enjoyed a good card game with friends. A favorite of his was spending time with his extended family on their shared river property. Time spent hunting, fishing, target practicing, and telling old stories by the campfire were fond memories for him.
Mark could often be heard to remark, “Havana, what a great place to grow up”.

Due to the current public health circumstances regarding the coronavirus, a formal funeral service was not held. Immediate family attended a private graveside service on 06/24/2020.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Town of Havana to help preserve The Slappey Building, a local landmark.
