George Doyle Turner
66 years old. June 29, 1957 - October 14, 2023
George grew up in Quincy, FL and graduated from Florida State University. He continued graduate work at the University of South Florida.
George worked for many years for the State of Florida. He was always mindful that he worked for the taxpayers and approached his responsibilities with dedication, integrity and hard work. His work ethic and contributions to the taxpayers was recognized when he was given the Davis Award. This annual award recognizes enterprising state employees for innovative and cost-effective accomplishments. George’s efforts gave Florida’s taxpayers significant savings for many years.
George was a lifelong, avid fan of the game of golf and the FSU Seminoles. He enjoyed music and dancing. His family and friends appreciated his outgoing and friendly manner, his passion for life, intelligence, contagious laugh, and great sense of humor. But, most importantly, he was the very proud father of his son, Justin Turner.
He is survived by his son Justin Turner, his sister Marian Turner-Sharpton, brother-in-law Pat Turner-Sharpton, step-brother Sam Higgins (Linda), step- sister Katie Bielsky, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father Dr. Charles C. Turner, his brother Charles K. Turner, his step-father Dr. Samuel G. Higgins. His mother, Bernice Higgins, joined them and the great cloud of witnesses on June 26, 2024.
We miss George greatly, and remember him with deep love, joy, and appreciation.
His ashes will be interred at Hillcrest Cemetery on Saturday, July 27, 2024 following a service for his mother, Bernice Higgins, at Centenary United Methodist Church at 1pm in Quincy, FL. After the service and interment, friends and family are invited to share refreshments at the Golf Club of Quincy.
