It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, and friend, Gary Wayne Colson. Gary left this world on Sunday, October 29, 2023, in Quincy, FL. He was a man of strength, courage, and boundless love.
Gary was born on December 3, 1946, in Gainesville, FL, and he was a devoted Gator fan. His life journey was one marked by service, dedication, and an unwavering love for the great outdoors. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for six years, displaying a deep commitment to the principles of honor and duty.
Following his time in the Navy, Gary embarked on a new chapter, joining The Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission in 1970. For 26 years, he dedicated his life to the conservation of Florida's natural beauty, ensuring future generations could enjoy the state's breathtaking wildlife and landscapes. Gary's passion for nature and his commitment to protecting it shone brightly in his work.
In 1996, Gary retired from his career at the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission, leaving a legacy of stewardship and dedication to preserving the environment. However, his love for nature extended far beyond the workplace. He cherished spending time hunting and fishing, activities he wholeheartedly enjoyed, with his two sons and a wide circle of cherished friends.
In addition to his lifelong dedication to service and the great outdoors, Gary was a loving husband and devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Colson of Quincy, FL, who shared in his joys and challenges, standing by his side through thick and thin; they were married just shy of 48 years. Their enduring love and partnership were a source of inspiration to all who knew them.
Gary is also survived by his daughter, Diane Yvonne Lyon of Cumming, GA and her spouse Gary, as well as his two sons, Christopher Wayne Colson of Lakeland, FL and his spouse Meagin, and Brian Jackson Colson of Ft. Myers, FL and his spouse Candace, along with four grandchildren, Treyson Wagner, Honus Wagner, Hailey Colson and Carter Colson and a sister Coni Colson.
