Ervin Leo Ventry, 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Tallahassee on Friday, February 19, 2016. He was born in Greensboro, Florida on April 13, 1924, he was the son of Dennis Frank Ventry and Emma Lee Ritter Ventry. Originally living in Liberty County, Florida, Leo moved to Quincy and worked for the Standard Oil Company. He moved to Tallahassee and continued working with Standard Oil, until he retired. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed hunting and freshwater fishing. He was also a lifelong fan of bluegrass music and a judge at bluegrass festivals.
He is survived by his wife of seventy three years, Margaret Bodiford Ventry; sons Billy (Linda) of Quincy and Bobby (Shannon) of Branford; four grandsons, Frank (Rita) and Marc (Anna Jo) of Quincy, Jeremy (Debbie) of Birmingham, Alabama and Chris (Lisa) of Crawfordville; eight great-grandchildren; nieces Carolyn King (J.D.) and Barbara White (Billy) of Hosford and special friend and neighbor Gaines Howerton (Denna) of Tallahassee. Leo was preceded in death by his parents and son David and sisters Bernice Rudd, Louise Goodson and Earline White.
Graveside service will be conducted by Bobby and Shannon Ventry, on Monday, February 22, 11:00 AM, EST at Sanders Cemetery in Hosford. The family wishes to thank Big Bend Hospice for the care they have provided. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Leo's honor to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL., 32308 or bigbendhospice.org.
