Obituary for Elsie Jane Randolph
Elsie Jane Randolph, 96, passed away (peacefully) at Bertrand Health Center of Westminster Oaks on Monday, July 12, 2021.

Born on June 17,1925 in Lovingston, VA, Jane was the daughter of the late Thurman Edward and Idell Pearl Fitzgerald Thompson. She moved to southern MD with her family when she was 11 years old. She met and married Roy Randolph, a Navy man, when she was 18 years old. She lived at home with her parents when she wasn’t following him to naval bases around the country. They were together seven blissful years before starting their own family. In 1957, they moved from MD to Jacksonville, FL with their four young children. A couple of years later, they relocated to the Florida panhandle where they had three more children. They lived in Quincy for over 20 years.

Jane was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Her family was her passion. She was the oldest daughter of 10 children - 5 boys and 5 girls - and was the elder of the family until her passing. She had 7 children - 5 boys and 2 girls. She was known as Granny Jane to her grandchildren. Most of her life was spent as a homemaker / domestic engineer (as she preferred to call it). She also worked in the food service industry and, for a time, managed the Gadsden County Canning Center. She moved to Maryland to care for her widowed mother the last 8 years of her life before retiring to Tallahassee in 1997. She was a cancer survivor and was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include her loving children: Iris Melton; Eddie; Bernie (Cindy); Cheryl Mahaffey of Haines City; Ronnie; and, Robbie; (note: all her children live in or near Tallahassee except one); also,13 grandchildren: Jason, JJ, Ashley, Cassidy, Josh, Courtney, Lacey, Dallas, Dylan, Jackie, Hunter, AJ and Allie; and,13 great grandchildren.

Jane (Janie) also leaves behind two sisters and best friends, Maude Ann Drinks of Englewood, FL and Peggie Scocco of Baltimore, MD; a brother, Lester Thompson (Connie) of Welcome, MD; sister-in-law, Nona Thompson of Spring Hill, TN; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Randolph; son, Rickey; two sisters: Anna Catherine Rollins and Alice Laswell; and, four brothers: Jr., Bill, Winston, and George.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bertrand Health Center who cared for Jane (Ms. Elsie) the last 5 years and who made her feel at home. A special thank you to Nurse Mary and to Betty, her CNA, whom she loved dearly.

The family will receive friends at Charles McClellan Funeral Home, 15 S. Jackson St, Quincy, FL 32351 (850-627-7677) on Friday, July 16, from 11am-12 Noon. A private, family graveside service will follow.
