1945-2018


Lynn was a loving wife, stepmother, teacher, and faithful friend. She passed away January 6, 2018. She was the daughter of Walter Maxwell and Josephine Gossett Phillips and wife of James Donald (Don) Munroe. Lynn grew up on a dairy farm in East Tallahassee and graduated from Leon High School in1963. She then attended FSU where she received both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Elementary Education. Lynn taught at Timberlane/Gilchrist Elementary and was an original member of the faculty at DeSoto Trail Elementary School.
In her early years, Lynn was a Girl Scout, receiving its highest award, the Curved Bar. She was a true lover of animals, especially dachshunds. At FSU Lynn was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority and later, the Junior League, where she served as Treasurer. In addition, she co-authored a cookbook and worked diligently on family genealogy and Tallahassee history.
Lynn is survived by her husband, Don Munroe, stepchildren, Lynn Walker (Charles) and Jim Munroe, four grandchildren, Patrick and Matthew Walker and
Bailey and Riley Munroe, sister, Jeanne (Dee) Tallman, brother, Walter Maxwell (Bud)Phillips, Jr., brother-in-law, Frank R. (Nick) Nicoll, brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Peggy Munroe, sister-in-law, Ruth Munroe Taylor, brother and sister-in-law, Edward (Wilson) and Marian Temple (Tee) Hinson, brother-in-law, Michael R. (Mike) Youngblood, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Leon County Humane Society, Gadsden County Humane Society, or American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11,2018 at 10:00 AM in the Church Parlor of the First Presbyterian Church, 306 N. Madison Street, Quincy, Florida, 32351. A celebration of Lynn’s life will follow in the Sanctuary at 11:00 AM. Reverend Chris Erde will officiate, assisted by Reverend Fran Buhler. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy.
Special thanks go out to the staff and physicians of Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute, Big Bend Hospice, and Lynn’s devoted friends that helped her so much during her illness. Special thanks to Marty Monroe, a devoted friend and mentor to Lynn.
