Obituary for Edna Marie Veasey Yarborough
Edna Marie (Veasey) Yarborough passed away on February 1, 2018. Edna was born on April 20, 1925 to James and Iowa Allen Hassett in Colgate, Alabama. Edna lived most of her early years in Leeds, Alabama. A lifetime member of Eastern Star, Chapter 22, Edna also attended business school at the age of 18 and worked in a piano store and as a cashier as a young woman. Edna married William Edwin Veasey on August 3, 1946. The couple purchased Talquin Lodge, a fish camp on Lake Talquin in Quincy, Florida where they relocated from Alabama in 1956. For more than twenty years they owned and operated the lodge, where Edna managed a cafe and cabin rentals for guests until the business was sold in 1983. Following Edwin’s death in 1980, Edna worked at the Quincy State Bank until retirement. Edna later remarried in 1989 to Julian Yarborough of Birmingham, Alabama. During their marriage of fourteen years, the couple split their residence between Edna’s home in Florida and her husband’s in Alabama.
Edna lived her 92 plus years to the fullest. She was strong, wise, and highly independent. She loved spending time with family and friends, crossword puzzles and shopping. She surprised everyone she met by her incredible memory and awareness until her last day. A shining light has gone out in our family and we will miss her dearly.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Willie Vester and Marjorie Veasey, both husbands, daughter-in-law Mariann Martin Veasey, and brothers James, Claude and Harold Hassett, Edna is survived by her son John (Nancy) Veasey of Middleburg, Florida and daughter Linda Veasey (Bob) Patterson of Marianna, Florida, two granddaughters, Jennifer (Dave) Jamison of Wesley Chapel, Florida and Courtney Jo Veasey, recently of New Orleans, Louisiana, two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Caitlan Jamison, sister Alice Owen and brother-in-law Rex (Loretta) Veasey, of Leeds, Alabama, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at First Baptist Church of Quincy, Fl, located at 210 W. Washington St., Quincy, FL., 32351.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd. Jacksonville, FL., 32257.
