Obituary for Dorothy Cramer Dodson
Dorothy Cramer Dodson ( "Dottie" or "Nana" ), age 86, died on May 17, 2015, in Tallahassee, Florida. Dottie was predeceased by her husband William S. Dodson ( Bill ) , and is survived by her daughter Linden D. Carnes ( Peter ), two sons - William S. Dodson, Jr. ( Trisha ) and Timothy R. Dodson ( Libby), seven grandchildren - J. Clifford Carnes, Timothy C. Carnes, William S. Dodson, III, Catherine K. Dodson, Patricia M. Dodson, Matthew S. Dodson and Fletcher S. Dodson and two nieces - Frances Sozio and Leah Kean. Dottie was a part of a three-generation Army family - her Grandfather was a General and the Military Attache' to Paris, her father was a Colonel, and her brother Tommy was an Army Pilot who was shot down and killed in World War II. Dottie was born to Colonel Raymond V. Cramer and Dorothy Rees Cramer in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 17, 1928. She was raised in Fort Monroe, Virginia and in Washington, D.C. Dottie graduated with degrees in Zoology and Art from Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut. Dottie was married in 1952 ( and for 57 years thereafter! ) to Bill. After their children were born in New York and Washington, Dottie and Bill moved to Quincy Florida in 1959, where they raised their family. Dottie lived life to the fullest! She loved and was loved by her family and her many friends. Dottie also loved painting and teaching art, music - especially playing the piano, sports - especially golf and college football, the TarHeels, and playing bridge. Dorothy was a member of the Board of Directors of the Ringling Museum in Tampa, and remained actively involved in the Museum. She was a member of Saint Peter's Anglican Church in Tallahassee. Dottie was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. A Memorial Funeral Service will be held at Saint Peter's Anglican Church 4784 Thomasville Rd., Tallahassee, FL. on Friday, May 22, 2015, at 2:00, followed by a 3:30 PM Burial Service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy.
