Obituary for Davis

J. C. Davis Stoutamire, 89, of Blue Creek, passed away on March 18, 2025. He was born in Blue Creek, Florida, on September 30, 1935 to Wade Hampton Stoutamire and Nancy Elizabeth (“Bessie”) Hedick, and was the youngest of ten children.

He was a 1954 graduate of Liberty County High School. He married Leona Dalton on March 23, 1956. They lived most of their married life and raised their family in Port St. Joe, before he retired from St. Joe Paper Company (1954-1996) and St. Joe Stevedoring Company, returning to Blue Creek in 1998.

After retiring, he enjoyed serving two terms as a County Commissioner in Liberty County (2006-2014) and his appointment to the Apalachee Regional Planning Council as a Board Member (2017).

Davis was well known for his excellent marksmanship and his love of hunting, fishing, sports, and all things outdoors. Although once an avid hunter, he later preferred instead to watch the sizeable herd of deer that would visit his yard each afternoon.

He was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Port St. Joe and later attended Grace United Methodist Church in Hosford, the church for which his parents were founding members.

He was preceded in death by Leona Dalton Stoutamire, his wife of 63 years. He is survived by his five children: Sheila Fletcher (Curt), Wade Stoutamire (Joycebeth), Connie Stoutamire (Dennis Carroll), Marcia Stoutamire, and Nancy DiSalvo (John). He is also survived by his sister, Jean Ris; eight grandchildren (Jinny, Jesse, Tami, Will, Megan, Lee, Corry and Crystal); six great grandchildren (Brittney, Christopher, Kasson, Morgan, Wyatt and Virgil); three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025, 11:00 AM at Old Blue Creek Cemetery, Old Blue Creek Road in Liberty County, FL.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in memory be made to the charity of your choice.

Charles McClellan Funeral Home, 15 S. Jackson St., Quincy, FL., 850-627-7677, is in charge of arrangements.
