Obituary for Cordy Lamar Massey
Cordy Lamar Massey, 86, was born December 27,1931 in Quincy, FL. He was raised in Quincy and graduated from Gadsden County High School in 1949. The son of a pharmacist, he received his BS degree in 1961 from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, where he was a member of the Gator football team prior to going into pharmacy. In 1963 he established Massey Chattahoochee Drugs and was in business for 30 years. He was a Consultant Pharmacist at Apalachee Correctional Institute and River Junction Correctional Institute, and was co-owner of Three Rivers Pharmacy in Sneads, Florida. He served as President of Northwest Florida Pharmacy Association and was a former member and past President of the Rotary Club in Chattahoochee. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gadsden State Bank in Chattahoochee prior to its sale to Sun Trust. He served on the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners for 20 years, served 4 terms as Chairman, and the new Health Department facility in Chattahoochee was named The Lamar Massey Building in his honor. He served one term on the Chattahoochee City Council and served on the Northwest Florida Regional Planning Council. Massey served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Port St. Joe, FL and served as a deacon.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years Hilda Blount Massey, his parents Cordy L. and Eunice J. Massey, his brother R.L. Massey, sister-in-law Wanda Darsey and brother-in-law Wallace Blount. He is survived by his children, Lynn Watson and husband Mark, Dr. Kenneth Massey and wife Jill, and Rebecca O'Donovan and husband Cormac; grandchildren, Linsdey Yeargin, Esq., Stephanie Yeargin, Erica Beneduce, Madison Massey, Alexander Massey, Jenna Vittorioso, Katherine Yasavolian, Emily Wiles, Katie O'Donovan and Maura O'Donovan; great grandchildren, Mason Shaffner and Elias Shaffner; nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church Chapel in Quincy, Florida. Visitation with the family will be Friday, November 9, 2018, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Charles McClellan Funeral Home,15 S. Jackson St., Quincy Florida, 850-627-7677.
