Clifton Theodore “Ted” Straughn, Jr., 81, of Quincy, FL died March 22, 2024 at his residence with his family next to him. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 25, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Quincy. Rev. Jeff Jackson will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery for family and close friends led by Rev. Kenneth Straughn.
Ted was born on Marh 13, 1943 in Quincy to Clifton Theodore Straughn, Sr. and Carmi Curry Straughn. He grew up there and graduated from Quincy High School in 1961. After serving in the U. S. Air Force with a tour in Vietnam, he attended Valdosta State University where he received a BS in Business Administration and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
He worked for the State of Florida Insurance Department as a Financial Analyst for 40 years. He met his wife, Muriel Baggett Straughn and they were married in 1993.
Ted loved his church family, First Baptist Church of Quincy and was a very active member. He loved music and was an integral part of the Sanctuary Choir. He assumed various leadership positions in the church. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Soapstone Hunting and Fishing Camp where he especially enjoyed the hunting dogs.
Ted was predeceased by his sister, Sherry Straughn. Survivors include his wife, Muriel Straughn of Quincy, his son, Clifton Theodore “Cliff” Straughn, III (Brandy) of Chattahoochee, his sister, Peggy Kinsaul of Lee County, GA, his stepchildren, Carol Dixon (Ron) of Thomasville, GA, Bryan Whitfield (Alison) of Bainbridge, GA and John Whitfield (Christy) of Crawfordville, FL. and his grandchildren, Emilee Hughes (Nick) of Marianna, FL, Ella Grace Carmi Straughn and Ben Davis Straughn both of Chattahoochee, FL, Anne Marie Hawkins (Braden), Lake Dixon, Madyson Whitfield all of Thomasville, Ga, Connor Whitfield (Natalie) of Parker, CO and Hayden Whitfield of Woodville, FL.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 24 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, Quincy, FL. The celebration of life will be on Monday, March 25 at 1:30 p.m. in First Baptist Church Sanctuary.
