He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Company A 801st MP BN in the Phillipines. He loved his country, he loved his family, he loved his friends and the history of this area. He was a farmer, an entrepreneur, and a great story-teller. He built the building where West End Grille is now, and established Quincy Tractor Company there in the 1940's. He kept us all smiling at his jokes and inspired us all with his work ethic and steadfastness. He was married for over 60 years, and is survived by, the love of his life, Mary Emma (Cowen). He is survived by his children, Susan Bassett of St. George Island, Ben (Rosa) Bassett of West Palm Beach, and Walker (Debbie) Bassett of Perry, and by his grandchildren Laura (Stephen) Madsen, Will, Benjamin, Katelyn, and Rachel Bassett, Susi (Ron) Hobgood, 3 great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
