CARL ALEXANDER THOMPSON
The “smoke escaped the wires” for our much loved husband, father, grandfather “Poppa”, little brother, cousin, best friend, pal, brother-in-law, son-in-law and electrician extraordinaire, Carl Alexander Thompson of Quincy Florida on Tuesday evening November 5, 2019, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL.
Carl was born October 28, 1949 in Colon, Republic of Panama, Canal Zone.
He was a Viet Nam era veteran serving in the Navy as an Avionics Electricians mate Petty Officer third class.
Carl retired from a career with Talquin Electric Cooperative as an Area Office Supervisor. He then proudly owned and operated Carl Thompson Electric, providing electrician service for many friends, family and beloved customers in the area.
Carl is survived by his wife and soul mate of 25 years Joy Thompson of Quincy, Florida. Daughter, Shelly Burns (Adam) of Blountstown, FL, sons Gordon “Gordie” Thompson (Allison), Hosford, FL and Lonnie Thompson, Ft. Myers, FL.
Extended family Troy Sullivan (Nicole), Crawfordville, FL, Chad Sullivan (Allison), Tallahassee, FL and Ryan Dirksen, Maryville, TN. Grandchildren Grayson, Emilea, Brett, Ryan “RD”, Logan, Hunter, Chris, Colby, Kyra, Savannah and Aysia.
Brother Lane Thompson (Georgia), Shalimar, FL, Sisters Celia Rick (Edward), Bethany Beach, DE, Carole Corey (Al), Katy, TX, friend & cousin Greg Thompson, Gretna, FL, numerous nieces and nephews and his two devoted pets Pooh and Spike. Carl is predeceased by his parents Gordon and Marion Thompson, Gretna FL.
Carl enjoyed reading, woodworking, gardening, bird watching, mowing the grass and working around The Farm with his tractor. He treasured his camaraderie with his AA Bainbridge Group when he traveled “to the other side” multiple times a week.
Having never met a stranger, Carl’s life touched many others. He embraced human companionship with love, loyalty and a sense of humor which was cherished by many and will be sorely missed everyday by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial service will be held Monday, November 11, 2019 at Gretna Baptist Church, Gretna FL. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 am, Memorial Service at 11:00 am.
