Birger E. “Andy” Anderson, 97, left this world Sunday, July18, 2021 to start his spiritual journey to be with his Heavenly Father.
Andy was born December 17, 1923 in Manistique, Michigan to Oscar E. Anderson and Tekla (Johnson) Anderson.
He is preceded by his brothers, Everett, Verner, Maurtiz and Roy Anderson; a sister, Linnea Anderson Meluis of Wisconsin, Michigan and Florida.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah A. (John) Mooney of Tallahassee, FL., a son, Robert “Bob” (Lindalee) Anderson of Palmetto, FL. Andy’s grandchildren are Amy A. (Mark) Robbins, Michael A. (Carrie) Aniello and Melissa D. Mooney and his great-grands, Alexandra Laing Robbins, Rylee Thomas Robbins and Madison Lulakay Aniello.
Andy came to Tallahassee in 1941 when he was in the Army Air Core and was stationed at Dale Mabry Field, which is now the site of Tallahassee Community College. While here he met the love of his life, Lula E. Laing from Quincy. They married right after World War II and moved to Quincy where they lived for 57 wonderful years. Andy surely became a Southerner!
He was a longtime member of Centenary Methodist Church. He loved very much helping out with Sunday School and the summer camp that the church owned in Mt. Pleasant.
His working career was as an insurance agent and superintendent. Later he enjoyed being a salesperson at Fletcher-Cantey Men’s Store in Quincy. He was such a people person and never met a stranger.
He loved playing and watching baseball and golf. In his retirement days he and Lula traveled as much as possible – which was a lot! They drove all over this country.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to go to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL., 32308.
Charles McClellan Funeral Home, Quincy, FL., 850-627-7677, is handling the arrangements.
