Obituary for Bernice Elizabeth Melton
Bernice Elizabeth Melton, age 56, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family on March 11, 2022, in Quincy, FL. Bernice was born on January 30, 1966, to Larry Eugene Melton and Sylvian JoAnn Bruckner in Quincy, FL. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Ashley Renee Melton and grandson Timothy Elkins Harrison.
Bernice’s proudest accomplishments and titles were mom and NeeNee. She is survived by her lifelong partner, Malone Barnes; her sons Christopher (Courtney) Hosey, Justin (Penny) Cooper, Alan Cooper; “mom” to Stephen (Monica) Semora, Alexis Barnes, Allison (Sammy) Rudd. Nine grandchildren Zak, Chase, Jacob, Katie, Ryan, Colleen, Cody, Courtney, Brittany, and Colton. Five great-grandchildren Chipper, Brady, Callen, Christopher, and Presley along with many nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly. She is survived by her mother JoAnn Bruckner and father Larry (Dora) Melton, sisters Genie Freeman, Victoria (James) Kvam, and brother Larry (Amy) Melton.
Bernice was baptized at Thomas Memorial Baptist in Quincy, FL. She was blessed with her love of nature and green thumb. In her spare time, she could be found working in her garden and filling up her many bird feeders. Her favorite was always the hummingbirds. She loved spending time with family and friends whether it was traveling to the mountains or taking time to enjoy the beach. Bernice loved her Florida State Seminoles and could be spotted wearing her garnet and gold proudly throughout the year.
Her love and quick wit will be deeply missed.
A Chapel service will be held at Antioch Church in the Fellowship Hall on Friday, March 18 at 3pm, 284 McCall Bridge Road, Quincy, FL 32351. A graveside service will immediately follow.
